Vocabulous! Education Pte. Ltd. — "Vocabulous!", "we", "us" — operates an online vocabulary tutoring platform for children and young people. These terms are the agreement between you and us. They explain what we provide, what we ask of you, what you pay, and what happens if something goes wrong.
Three other documents form part of this agreement, and you should read them alongside these terms: our Privacy Policy, which explains what we do with personal information; our Acceptable Use Policy, which sets out how everyone is expected to behave; and our Refund Policy, which explains when money comes back. Where these terms and one of those documents cover the same ground, the more specific document applies.
By creating an account or using the platform, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.
We have tried to write this in plain English rather than legal language. If anything here is unclear, email info@vocabulous.co and we will explain it.
If you are under 13, you cannot set up an account yourself, and there is only one way for you to have one. A parent or guardian signs up first, and then creates your account from theirs. We collect nothing from you until they have given consent. This is required by section 13 of the Singapore Personal Data Protection Act 2012 ("PDPA"), and it is the standard the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act sets.
We do not collect an email address from a child. A child's account has no email address on it — you sign in with a username and a PIN that your parent sets up for you, and your parent's email address is the one we use. If a child tries to register on their own, we will not create the account; we ask them to have a parent sign up instead.
If you are 13 to 15, you can register and agree to these terms yourself, provided you understand what you are agreeing to. Where we have reason to think you do not, we will ask a parent or guardian instead.
If you are 16 or over, you can register and agree to these terms yourself.
If you are a tutor, you register yourself, but your account does not become active until we have approved it. Approval includes verifying your identity and your right to work. We may decline an application without giving reasons.
A parent or guardian who sets up a child's account agrees to these terms on that child's behalf, and is responsible for the child's use of the platform and for everything booked and paid for on the child's account.
One person, one account. Please do not hold more than one account of the same kind. A parent who is also a tutor may hold one of each.
Please give us accurate details when you register, and keep them up to date. Decisions about lessons, and reports about a child, are only as good as the information behind them.
You are responsible for what happens on your account. Keep your password to yourself. If you are a parent, keep your child's PIN to yourself and reset it from your dashboard if you think someone else has learned it.
Tell us straight away if you think someone has got into your account, by emailing info@vocabulous.co. The sooner we know, the more we can do.
We may suspend an account that contains false information, and we may ask you to prove who you are before we act on a request about it.
If you are a parent, your account and your children's are linked. You manage your children's accounts from your dashboard: you set up each child, choose their username, set and reset their PIN, and can add another child at any time. Closing your own account closes your children's accounts and their information too, so please export anything you want to keep first.
You book lessons on your child's behalf. When you book, you choose which child the lesson is for, and it is recorded on that child's account. You are the contracting party for every booking and payment made for your children. You can only book for a child linked to your own account.
A child under 13 sees a simpler version of the platform. They can see their upcoming lessons, take part in group programmes, use the vocabulary learning tools, and play the games. They cannot see payment or transaction history or edit their own profile, because those are yours to manage on their behalf.
Vocabulous! connects students with tutors for one-to-one lessons, and runs free group programmes with schools and community partners. Through the platform you can book and schedule lessons, take part in live video lessons, work through a curriculum and learning materials we have written, use vocabulary practice tools and games, follow your progress, and message the people you learn with.
We use outside service providers to make some of this work — video conferencing, file storage, email delivery, and payment processing among them. Our Privacy Policy describes what each category of provider receives. Their own terms apply to their services, and we are not responsible for their availability or performance.
The platform is provided as it is, and as it is available. We do not promise that it will always be uninterrupted or error-free. We may change, suspend, or restrict parts of it for maintenance or for reasons outside our control, and we will give reasonable notice where we can.
Tutors are independent contractors, not our employees. You decide how you teach, within the standards set out here and in our Acceptable Use Policy. Nothing in these terms creates an employment relationship, a partnership, or an agency.
Before your account is activated we verify your identity, your right to work, and the qualifications you have claimed. You must tell us promptly if any of that changes.
You are responsible for your own taxes on what you earn through the platform, and for complying with the law where you live.
We expect tutors to turn up on time and prepared, to teach the lessons they have accepted, to behave professionally with students who are children, and to report any concern about a child's welfare to us immediately. We may suspend or remove a tutor who does not, and we may do so without notice where a child's safety is involved.
The price of a lesson is shown before you book it. You pay at the time of booking. We may change our prices, but a change never affects a lesson you have already booked and paid for.
Group programmes run with schools and community partners are free. No payment is collected for them at any stage.
We charge tutors a commission on each completed lesson. The rate is disclosed to a tutor during onboarding and shown in their dashboard. A tutor receives the lesson price less that commission, and can request a payout of their balance. We may ask for further verification before releasing a payout, and a tutor with a pending balance should request it before closing their account.
Your card details never reach us. Payment is handled by a payment processing provider, and we never see or store your full card number.
We may offer discount coupons from time to time. Coupons carry their own conditions, including expiry dates, and we may withdraw a promotion at any time.
When money comes back to you — for a cancellation, a no-show, or a lesson we could not deliver — is set out in our Refund Policy.
We run free group vocabulary programmes with schools and community partners, for children who would benefit from extra vocabulary teaching. There is no charge to families at any stage.
A programme runs under a named supervising teacher. An organiser applying to run one gives us the programme's name and description, their own organisation and role, the name and contact details of the supervising teacher who has approved it, the details of any co-leads, the expected number of mentors and participants, and the period it will run for. We review each application and may approve or decline it.
Participants join with a code the organiser shares with them. Volunteer mentors join by accepting an emailed invitation from the organiser — never by code. An organiser can regenerate the participant code at any time, which immediately invalidates the old one, and should do so if a code has been shared too widely.
Organisers and mentors must keep a supervising teacher accountable for the programme throughout, maintain a safe and respectful environment for participants who are children, deliver sessions consistently over the period they committed to, and tell us promptly if the supervising teacher changes or the programme cannot continue.
We may suspend or remove a programme at any time, including where an organiser does not meet these obligations or where we receive a safeguarding concern.
Everyone using Vocabulous! — students, parents, tutors, and partners — must follow our Acceptable Use Policy. It forms part of these terms, and breaking it is a breach of this agreement. It covers behaving decently towards other people, keeping content appropriate for a platform used by children, being honest about who you are, and not interfering with the platform itself.
If you see something that breaks it, please report it — section 11 explains how.
Our materials belong to us. The curriculum, word lists, lesson plans, stories, exercises, games, images, software, designs, and the Vocabulous! name and logo are owned by or licensed to us, and protected under the Singapore Copyright Act 2021.
Without our written permission, please do not copy, redistribute, or make adaptations of our materials; use them commercially outside the platform; reverse-engineer any part of the software; extract data from the platform by automated means; or remove any copyright notice.
Your work belongs to you. Assignments you hand in, messages you write, your profile, and reviews you post remain yours. By posting them you give us permission to store and display them so that the platform works — showing your work to your tutor, showing a review on a tutor's profile — and, for reviews and testimonials only, to quote them in describing our service. You confirm that what you post is yours to post and does not infringe anyone else's rights.
We may remove content that breaks these terms or our Acceptable Use Policy. If you think something on the platform infringes your copyright, email info@vocabulous.co with enough detail to identify it and we will look into it.
Feedback about the platform — suggestions and ideas you send us — we may use freely and without payment.
What we collect, why, who else sees it, and how long we keep it is set out in our Privacy Policy and Data Retention Policy. Both form part of these terms. Rather than summarise them here, where a summary would eventually drift out of step, we ask you to read them.
Your rights of access, correction, withdrawal of consent, deletion, and export are described there, together with how to exercise them. A parent's additional controls over a child's account are described there too.
On cookies, briefly: we use essential cookies to keep you signed in, and — with your consent — preference cookies that remember your language and timezone. We use no advertising cookies and no cross-site tracking. You can manage this from the cookie banner or your browser settings, and choosing essential cookies only does not cost you access to lessons.
If you have a concern about a child's safety, tell us immediately at info@vocabulous.co, and say that it is a safeguarding concern so that we route it correctly. We treat these ahead of everything else. Where we believe a child is at risk, we may act without notice — including suspending an account or contacting the authorities.
To report anything else — a message, a review, a profile, or a user's behaviour — use the reporting option on the platform, or email info@vocabulous.co. Tell us what happened and where, and we will look into it.
We aim to acknowledge a report within 5 business days, and a safeguarding concern immediately. We may remove content, warn a user, suspend or close an account, or report conduct to law enforcement.
You can close your account at any time from your settings, or by emailing info@vocabulous.co. Our Data Retention Policy explains what happens to your information afterwards, and for how long we hold it before deleting it permanently. If you are a parent, closing your account also closes your children's accounts.
We may suspend or close an account where these terms or our Acceptable Use Policy have been broken, where activity appears fraudulent or unlawful, where a tutor does not complete verification, or where an account has not been signed in to for 24 months. Where it is practicable and appropriate we will tell you first and explain why. Where a child's safety is involved, we may act immediately.
If you think we have got it wrong, reply to us and say so. We will look again, and a person who was not involved in the original decision will review it.
When an account closes, access to the platform stops, your information is handled as our Data Retention Policy describes, and any tutor balance outstanding is paid out subject to verification. Anything you already owe remains owed. The sections of these terms that are meant to outlive the agreement — ownership, disclaimers, liability, indemnity, and governing law — continue to apply.
We provide the platform as it is, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows.
We do not promise a particular result. Learning depends on many things outside our control, and we cannot guarantee a grade, a score, or a rate of improvement.
We verify tutors, but we cannot guarantee them. We check identity, right to work, and qualifications before approving a tutor, and we act on concerns that are reported to us. We cannot guarantee the competence or conduct of any individual, and we encourage parents to stay aware of their child's lessons.
We are not responsible for outside services — video conferencing, payment processing, or your own internet connection — beyond what our Refund Policy provides when a lesson could not go ahead because of a failure on our side.
To the fullest extent Singapore law allows, our total liability to you for anything arising out of these terms or your use of the platform will not exceed what you paid us in the 12 months before the event that gave rise to the claim.
We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses — lost profits, lost data, lost goodwill, or similar — even if we were warned they were possible.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
If you cause us loss by breaking these terms or the law, or through what you post, you agree to cover the reasonable costs and claims that result.
Please come to us first. Most problems are resolved quickly by email to info@vocabulous.co, and we would rather put something right than argue about it. We aim to respond within 10 business days.
Between a student and a tutor, we will help in good faith — passing messages, looking at the lesson record, and applying our Refund Policy where it applies. We are not a judge of a dispute between two users, and we do not decide who is right beyond what those things show.
If it cannot be resolved, these terms are governed by the law of the Republic of Singapore, and the courts of Singapore have exclusive jurisdiction.
We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page always shows when they last changed.
Where a change is significant, we will email registered users at least 14 days before it takes effect. Continuing to use the platform after that means you accept the change. If you do not, you can close your account.
Where a change affects a child's information, we will ask a parent for consent again rather than assuming that earlier consent carries over.
These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, Data Retention Policy, and Acceptable Use Policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about the platform.
If a court finds any part of these terms unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. If we do not enforce something straight away, we do not lose the right to enforce it later. You may not transfer your rights under these terms to someone else without our written consent; we may transfer ours.
We send notices to the email address on your account. Send notices to us at info@vocabulous.co.
These terms are written in English. If they are translated and the versions conflict, the English version applies.
