Bringing Words to Life (2013)
Tier 2 Robust instruction

Three tiers of vocabulary: Tier 1 everyday words, Tier 2 high-utility cross-domain words ('coincidence', 'industrious'), Tier 3 domain-specific terms. Tier 2 is the pedagogical sweet spot — pervasive across mature texts but rarely picked up incidentally by children with limited exposure. Robust instruction means student-friendly definitions, multiple varied encounters and active use, never inference alone.

How we apply it
Tier 2 words are the spine of every level. We teach with definition + example + image + use, not 'guess from context'.

Why kids actually remember

Each word comes back just before it would be forgotten.

No flashcards. No coin-grinding. The engine watches your child's recall and plants each word in their week at exactly the right moment — then leaves them alone the rest of the time.

The science

We didn't invent how children learn words.
We just took the research seriously.

Vocabulous! is in active correspondence with the researchers whose work we build on. Here's what they figured out — and what we did about it.

For schools & social organisations

Students from low-income backgrounds learn for free free.

Vocabulous! is a registered social enterprise. Every dollar of revenue from paying families is reinvested so any low-income student registered through a valid NGO or partner school receives Vocabulous! at no cost — same tutor, same engine, same dashboard.

Trust & safety

What we do behind the scenes so you don't have to think about it.

Vetted tutors

Every tutor is interviewed, trained on Vocabulous! pedagogy, observed in early sessions, and background-checked.

Privacy-first by default

Your child's data is never sold and never used to train external models. We follow strict data-protection standards and are independently audited.

Quantum-proof encryption

Personal data is encrypted with hybrid post-quantum cryptography to defeat the "harvest now, decrypt later" problem.

Works on any device you own

Tablets, laptops, Chromebooks — anything with a modern browser. Built to feel right on the device your child already uses.

We never use isolated flashcards. Words are taught in a uniquely fun way to make learning memorable instead of rote while remaining research backed and technology driven.

45 minutes, weekly. 1-on-1 with a vetted and trained tutor. Parental supervision is encouraged.

About 15 minutes a day on the adaptive practice in addition to weekly tutoring session.

School moves at the pace of the class. Vocabulous! moves at the pace of your child. The tutor and engine work together to fill the specific vocabulary gaps your child has — not the average gaps of the grade.

We do not sell data, share it with advertisers, or use it to train external AI models. We follow data-protection standards and use hybrid post-quantum encryption for stored personal data.

Organisations can offer Vocabulous for free to low-income children. Get in touch by sending an email to info@vocabulous.co.
