Vocabulous! was founded on the premise that the income-achievement gap between children from different socioeconomic standings was perpetually widening. Several factors have been shown to contribute to this widening income-achievement gap, most specifically the difference in frequency of quality interaction and directed vocabulary teaching.

This was shown to account for the academic gap that started before children even started formal education, and had long-lasting effects on them even through adulthood and further perpetuating their cycle of poverty.

At Vocabulous! we believe that proficiency in one's native language is a critical factor in determining future success, and by bolstering the vocabulary of children from lower-income backgrounds, that we may help to narrow the income-achievement gap.

Our mission

One mission is to address the income-achievement gap by enhancing the vocabulary of children who come from low-income backgrounds.

By improving their vocabulary skills, these children can better express themselves, understand and analyze information, and communicate their thoughts effectively. This can lead to increased academic success and improved overall cognitive development. There are various methods and programs available that specifically target vocabulary development, such as interactive learning activities, word games, and reading comprehension exercises.

These initiatives aim to create a supportive and engaging learning environment that encourages children to actively participate and expand their vocabulary.
